The VS-FILM Very Short Film Festival, scheduled to start from November 3 to 7, 2024 in Ain Sokhna, headed by Dr. Osama Abu Nar, has revealed the jury for its two competitions for films that do not exceed 5 and 10 minutes.
The committee is headed by the great Senegalese director Moussa Touré and includes Dr. Ghada Jabara, President of the Academy of Arts, Professor Arsene Arkalyan from the Yarvian Academy of Armenia, the international French director of Algerian origin Hamid Ben Omra,
and the Moroccan distributor, producer and director Iman Mesbahi,
and Hani Al-Mulla, CEO of the Saudi Cinema Association, and the Iraqi writer and screenwriter Hamid Al-Maliki.
Director Hamid Ben Amra expressed his happiness to participate in the festival’s jury and mentioned that he participated with his films in Egyptian festivals such as Cairo and that he is personally connected to Egypt emotionally and artistically. He also hopes to implement a joint work with Egyptian filmmakers in the near future. Hani Al-Mulla said: The difficulty of very short films is also met with a great responsibility in their jury committees, especially since the competition between the films is characterized by rivalry because they are characterized by a high artistic level due to their short time, which does not exceed the fingers of one hand.
For his part, Ziad Basmir, Vice President of the Festival, said: The festival management took into account diversity in choosing the jury members to enrich the committee’s activity in choosing the award-winning films and that the committee includes filmmakers of different nationalities from the East, West and South, all of whom belong to different cinematic schools. In the end, the winner of this difference is the festival and the participating filmmakers, so that this diversity will lead to surprises in the list of winning films, which is what we expect from the committee. While Ashraf Sarhan, the festival’s artistic director, explained that the committee includes important international artistic elements that have their weight in the field of cinema, whether as makers or those who manage festivals or film associations that have achieved a remarkable international record, and that the festival was keen from the beginning to form a committee at an international level, due to our strong belief that the short film is the future of the film industry and at the same time it is the most difficult to implement, so it was necessary for us to have a distinguished committee.
